The Bible
teaches us that our bodies are the temple for the Holy Spirit to indwell.
“Do you not know that you
are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the
temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.” (I Corinthians 3:16 NKJV).
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple
of the Holy Spirit who is in
you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought
at a price; therefore glorify God in your body[c] and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (I Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV).
You are
the temple of the living God. Allowing any remnant of sin in your temple
pollutes you. Sin distorts any activities of righteousness. Pride pollutes the
temple. Greed pollutes the temple.
Control pollutes the temple. Church politics pollute the temple. All were on
display in Jesus’ time.
God made
you and me to love, worship, fellowship, and serve Himself with singular
devotion. But He gave us free-will. He wants our worship to come from a heart
of love and choice. Self-sovereignty pollutes God’s design. Double-mindedness
is always a pollution of God’s plan.
“Because zeal for Your house has
eaten me up, and the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me” (Psalm 69:9 NKJV)
Zeal for
Father’s house consumed Jesus with an all-consuming passion. Zeal for a pure
and holy temple which the Holy Spirit can indwell consumes our Lord similarly.
You are that temple. Jesus loves you with a boundless self-giving love, the
love of God, that has provided the Person and the power to cleanse and indwell
the temple of God that is within you.
Pollution cannot remain. Allow Jesus access to lovingly and urgently enter the courts of your heart, your temple, and drive out the money changers and sellers. When you allow Him full access, He will make your temple clean so that He may indwell you.
